Six Tips for Building Confidence
Confidence is trust in our ability to carry out a task or process, we build it like a muscle, growing stronger the more we work on it. If you’ve been through tough times or experienced self-doubt confidence can dip. The good news is, it can be rebuilt stronger than ever step by step. Confidence is not about being perfect its trusting you’ll figure things out even if things get tricky.
1. Practice, preparation and research
- the more we use these the stronger confidence becomes, when we feel practiced, prepared or carry out research small or big we feel more confident.
2. Start Small
- confidence doesn’t come from huge leaps It comes from small wins, make a list of small goals you can realistically do, such making a phone call you’ve been avoiding, speaking up in a meeting, practice, prepare or research before hand so you feel more equipped.
3. Speak Kindly to Yourself
- such as 'I can do this' use positive affirmations to prepare for tasks. Many of us have a running inner critic we second-guess and compare ourselves, try noticing that critic voice and gently replace “I’m not good enough” with “I’m doing the best I can right now” over time kinder words start to stick.
4. Get Comfortable
- being confident doesn’t mean you never feel fear it means fear doesn’t stop you. Next time you're nervous take one small action anyway say hello first, share an idea, it may not be perfect but each time you act in spite of fear you prove to yourself you’re capable.
5. Surround Yourself with Support
- confidence thrives in safe encouraging spaces that might mean talking to a counsellor, spending more time with people who uplift you. Support doesn’t mean doing it for you it means cheering you on while you do it.
6. Celebrate Progress
- confidence grows when we focus on progress not perfection. Take time to recognize how far you’ve come, Journal small victories, reflect on challenges you’ve overcome just showing up for yourself by reading this post—it is something worth celebrating.
